On Saturday 17 December 2016, The Bower shopfronts in Marrickville and Parramatta held their inaugural ‘staff day’ where all net profits from the day go directly to the staff.
“As we draw to the end of what has been a huge year for us, it seems appropriate to reward all our very own Bowerbirds for the hard work they’ve put in,” says Guido Verbist, General Manager of The Bower. “We’ve almost doubled the number of councils subscribing to our Collection & Rehoming program, we opened a new store at Parramatta, we've won some pretty impressive awards (Premier's Award for Environmental Excellence and the Inner West Sustainability Leadership Award), there's been over 50 workshops run both at Redfern and out in the community, the Tiny House work-for-the-dole project was a big feature on our calendar and we partnered with Mums 4 Refugees to run the hugely successful crowdfunding campaign 'From House to Home'. So we want to devote our net profits to our staff.”
That's right. The profits from the day went to the staff. It’s being called 'Bower Staff Day'.
Sydney residents were encouraged to do their Christmas shopping at The Bower in Marrickville and Parramatta on Saturday 17 December to help thank the dedicated staff!! It's just one way that The Bower, as a social enterprise and charity, can give back to the very people who make it all happen on a daily basis.
