A new Social enterprise based in Canberra is offering to give other community groups and non-profits a makeover.
Skills Community Education Networks and Environment (SCENE) is an interior design agency which aims to provide skills for individuals that are long-term unemployed, early school leavers, teen parents, new Australians, seniors, those with physical or emotional barriers, or the otherwise disadvantaged.
SCENE works with members of the community such as qualified tradespersons, experienced business people and community volunteers. These volunteers provide the support network for the program by demonstrating their skills and sharing their knowledge with those facing barriers to work.
The hard working welfare sector often have limited funding, with the priority being care for the community. SCENE says thank you by aesthetically improving the workplaces of not-for-profit organisations.
After several successful projects the aim is to create employment within the SCENE program. Small businesses and home owners on tight budgets often wish to aesthetically improve their properties, but interior designers and tradespeople are beyond financial reach. SCENE will offer an affordable service, generating employment and income for the participants, also funds to operate the skills phase of the program with self sufficiency.
The goal is for the SCENE program to grow, with multiple community projects running simultaneously. Providing skills, opportunities, employment for many disadvantage individuals. And giving more of our hardworking welfare organisations spaces that nourish, inspire and give thanks for the work they do.
