Gas Recycling

OZONE Australia (03) 98109600 assisted the Recycle Shop with getting the gas recycling process started. They are now known as the Australian Refrigeration Council. (see website - http://www.arctick.org/index.php)  They are aware of the associated regulations.

The City of Greater Bendigo currently charge $12.00 per refrigeration/air conditioning unit that comes to the local landfill. This money is passed onto the Recycle Shop to cover labour costs.

The Barbeque Bottles and Methane Bottles (ie household gas bottles) go back to the appropriate supplier ie ELGAS. In the case of the Recycle Shop we have an inkind arrangement with the company whereby they provide gas for the Shop's gas powered forklift in exchange for the bottles returned to them.

The Oxy/Cetaline Bottles are returned to Boc Gas - A record is kept of the returns to credit.

The Recycle Shop reclaim the gas from refrigerators, air conditioners and freezers with a machine that can be purchased from any accredited refrigeration company. (cost then was approx $1500) The suppliers of this machine can also provide the training of staff to reclaim the gas safely. The gas unit is then returned to a nominated company (whether that be Boc Gas on the credit arrangement) or a company who will provide a dollar return on the reclaimed gas. We currently return 1 - 2 units of gas per month.
